Property overview

Seashore Avenue Property was contributed by Guy Gannett Communications in September 1998. It is located adjacent to the Battery Steele and One Hundred Acre Woods properties on the backshore of the island. Seashore Avenue is bounded by wetlands and the ocean and is a valuable bird habitat.

Highlights of this preserve include:

·   Cattail Marsh covers the entire 0.58 acres and is characterized by dense herbaceous vegetation and broad-leaved cattail. Other species present include sensitive fern, jewelweed, meadowsweet and seaside rose (Rosa rugosa) along the roadside.

·   Although there are no trails on this parcel, visitors can still view it from Seashore Avenue and access it via the trails within the adjacent properties. Walking, hiking, and bicycling are common activities in the area. However, since there are no trails on the property itself, this activity is limited to the roadway.

Impacts of 2024's January storms are visible on the property and stand as a testament to the increasing coastal storm impacts of climate change.
